After installing WordPress successfully, you will have to fine-tune it. This article, or set-up guide, whatever you want to name it, takes you through the basics, but also covers some advance stuff that I think is worthwhile mentioning, such as advanced settings and WordPress plug-ins.
How to set-up a WordPress site?
First of all, log into your WordPress Admin and open Settings which can be found in the left menu.
We’ll start out with the General Settings.
In case you have installed WordPress right after the start, big chance you are using a temporary URL. Make sure to update the WordPress URL and Blog URL here once your domain name is active.
Second, and pay close attention as this is one of the most important parts of setting up a WordPress site, are the Permalinks. I suggest you either select Month and Name or Numeric. This will change your URLs in search engine friendly URLs.
I personally like to make WordPress look more like a static website, instead of a blog. To be able to, you should add a new page first, name it Home for instance. Then you can change this setting under Reading, also in the left menu. You will have to change the “Front page displays” by checking “A static page” and choose the page you have created to be set as home.
